We are a full service architecture and interior design office based in New York, Western Massachusetts and working the Hudson Valley, Berkshires and beyond. We aim to elevate the quality of people’s lives through architecture by creating spaces that inspire discovery. Our approach is simultaneously exploratory, technical, and responsive to requirements of the project and sites on which we build. Our process intuitively reveals possibilities latent within every brief over a range of project types and scales including urbanism, buildings, houses, renovations, additions, interior design and furniture. LOFT FOR A COLLECTOR
New York, New York

We approached this New York City loft as a space that simultaneously reveals and disappears. Spaces and functions are concealed and revealed for different functions and uses.

Upon entry, the space slowly unfolds and you are lead by the art on the walls into the  living space which glows with hidden lights embedded in the existing structural beams. 

A large wall of rosewood paneling is filled with hidden functions: a custom bar by a contemporary artist,; a guest bathroom; art storage; and media cabinet and wall that extends to enclose a guest room. 

To allow light to filter softly throughout the space, surfaces and textures we choses and manipulated to provide a soft yet bright illumination for the art collection. Walls were designed to prevent direct exposure to sun for the mix of drawing and paintings in the client’s collection. 

The interiors were chosen to reflect the clients attaction to classic mid-century design with new and vintage pieces as well as custom designed pieces, including a collaboration with an artist for the multi-functional wall cabinet that includes a slide-out bed which is hidden under a be in an adjacent room.  We were able to successfully create a flexible apartment that lives larger that it is as a consequence.
