We are a full service architecture and interior design office based in New York, Western Massachusetts and working the Hudson Valley, Berkshires and beyond. We aim to elevate the quality of people’s lives through architecture by creating spaces that inspire discovery. Our approach is simultaneously exploratory, technical, and responsive to requirements of the project and sites on which we build. Our process intuitively reveals possibilities latent within every brief over a range of project types and scales including urbanism, buildings, houses, renovations, additions, interior design and furniture. MOUNTAIN HOUSE
Mill Valley, California

From a typical mountain cabin we were tasked with creating a home for a growing family that enjoyed entertaining. Bordered by the low slopes of Mount Tamalpias to the north and the valley to the south, the original house was surrounded by a natural environment of live oaks and California buckeye. Our intervention is to expand upon an existing buiding footprint.

The slope from the house to the road is so severe cars are parked below and sweeping step climb visitors to the front door. There rear of the lot has a direct connection to a trail leading to Mout Tam, so the front door curved from the street below and around to the rear of the building. One could walk from the street to the trail as a continouse path. 

Outdoor spaces on the second level were provided to take advantage of the mild Northern California weather and offered views of the valley below. Light and access to the existing landscape were key drivers of the addition and the clients required an abundance of entertaining space which we provided on both levels, both indoor and out.
